Pakistan Reaffirms Strong Ties with Iran as PM Shehbaz Congratulates New Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Iran in a letter addressed to the country’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said on Tuesday.

The message followed the announcement by Iran’s Assembly of Experts, which appointed Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader after the assassination of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in what Iranian authorities described as coordinated US-Israeli strikes carried out days earlier.

PM Shehbaz Extends Congratulations

In his letter, the prime minister congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the role and expressed confidence that he would lead Iran toward peace, stability, and prosperity.

PM Shehbaz also offered condolences on the death of the former Iranian leader, describing his passing as a tragic loss.

He stated that the martyrdom of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had deeply saddened the people of Pakistan, who stand in solidarity with the leadership and citizens of Iran during this difficult period.

Pakistan-Iran Relations Highlighted

The premier emphasized that the relationship between Pakistan and Iran is built on shared faith, history, culture, and linguistic ties, which continue to form the foundation of cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to work closely with Iran to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both nations.

Messages from Pakistani Leadership

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated the Iranian leader through a message on social media platform X, praising him for taking on the responsibilities of Supreme Leader.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari also extended his congratulations to Mojtaba Khamenei in a separate message, expressing hope that the development would contribute to greater regional stability and improved conditions in the region.

Prayers and Best Wishes

In his letter, the prime minister prayed for the new Iranian leader’s health, success, and well-being, and wished peace, stability, and prosperity for the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
