At least 31 people were killed and 169 others injured when a devastating explosion tore through Imambargah Khadijah al-Kubra in the Tarlai area of Islamabad during Friday prayers, officials confirmed.
District administration spokespersons said security forces have completely sealed off the blast site, and assistant commissioners are overseeing the treatment of the injured across multiple hospitals in the federal capital.
Scene of the Tragedy
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic and horrific scene, with bloodied bodies lying on the mosque carpet surrounded by debris, shattered glass, and panicked worshippers. Dozens of wounded were reportedly lying in the garden outside the mosque as people rushed to help.
Rescue and Emergency Response
Authorities confirmed that Police and Rescue 1122 personnel immediately reached the scene to initiate rescue operations. Emergency measures were enforced at Polyclinic Hospital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), and CDA Hospital to accommodate the influx of injured victims.
A spokesperson from PIMS confirmed that the main emergency, orthopedic, burn, and neurology departments have been activated, and an urgent appeal has been issued to citizens to donate blood for the victims.
